Presentation: International Cooperation on e-Logistics in APEC
About Korea Integrated Logistics Consortium (KILC)
KILC is Korea's only B2B logistics centric public e-Marketplace backed up and funded by MOCIE (Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy) and also more than 20 private logistics solution and service providers. In short, KILC is a government-sponsored logistics B2B platform.
MOCIE has invested and bolstered up the development and installation of ERP for Korea's trading companies. Such efforts have kept going on to SCM and B2B e-Marketplaces by industry. In Korea, there are more than 50 e-Marketplaces under development or in operation like KILC. They are textile, auto, electronic and others which are planning to use or using KILC as their logistics components or services. KILC is a national logistics platform commonly and jointly used by those e-Marketplaces. It is now operated by KTNET (Korea Trade Network).
KILC can be referred to as a consignor and consignee specific service system to facilitate B2B logistics business processes and also to get logistics service providers equipped with various services and solutions for their customers.
KILC has two service functions of domestic and international logistics business. Its collaborative network platform gives customers and logistics service providers the underlying network infrastructure to connect to partners quickly, with minimal set-up costs and maximum flexibility. Its B2B services are delivered through an Application Service Provider (ASP).
As to the system configuration, e-Logis hub is a main system that consists of KILC web portal, in which B2B relevant services are installed. It implies that KILC can be easily accessed by customers in various system environments. It is positioned to deal with a variety of message standards and communication protocols.
Global visibility is a main service that KILC has been providing for B2B markets. Visibility is quite different from the existing tracking & tracing service in that visibility is a pro-active cargo monitoring system leveraging event management, system connection, decision making support and finally analysis on the logistics performance.
KILC has been trying to connect global e-Marketplaces to both enhance its value proposition and extend its service scope for the customers. One of those efforts is getting along with the close cooperation and collaboration with GTNexus, which is an ocean shipping centric e-Marketplace for the North American markets.
The chief objective that KILC is to achieve can be said to be a single window representing Korea's logistics industry for its customers at home and abroad.
